Today I witnessed a bizarre scene in the proximity of some container bins. A discarded doll was apparently being guarded by a feral cat, which hissed at passersby. Whether the cat had claimed the doll as a potential food source or something more sympathetic, I couldn’t tell.
This is a friend’s Tibetan mastiff and it’s annoying feline companion. That little cat constantly harasses the dog but the mastiff doesn’t flinch. The dog’s now 8 months old and weighs 45 kilos. It’s probably the best natural guard dog I’ve ever encountered. Since it was a little pup it has guarded and been aloof.
I had a great night last night at my friend’s, Jan’s. He has a cool weekend cottage in the hills outside Bardejov, overlooking the forest. He had a group of his friends over, a really diverse bunch, and we had a good time. Slovaks know how to enjoy their free time and incorporate nature with it without forcing the issue to the extreme. It comes naturally to them.
