Tomorrow, Presidents Biden and Putin will hold a conference call online regarding Russia’s massive build up of troops along the Ukraine border. Is this, as some fear, the precursor to an invasion? And what would be the West’s reaction if it was – more sanctions, or an armed response? With Ukraine becoming closer to membership in both the EU and NATO, Russia has made it clear that it doesn’t want that on its own doorstep.
Following an intelligence report stating that Russia is possibly planning to invade Ukraine with 175,000 troops, and satellite imagery confirming a large build up of several battalions along the border, just what is Putin planning? And how far will the US and EU go to defend their latest ally?
And then there’s the China-Taiwan issue which has again risen to the fore following the aggressive fly-over, the strange call for Chinese citizens to stockpile food and supplies, and the clearly threatening rhetoric displayed on the Australian ABC documentary ‘Poking the Panda’. Are we looking at what could become a global war on two fronts in the very near future?
