Hypothesising and philosophising is great when life gives you a moment to yourself to reflect. But then life, especially if you live a self reliant lifestyle, rings the alarm and wakes you up, reminding you about the here and now. Then it ladles lots of urgent issues on your plate and somehow you have to deal with them.
Self reliance is more than just a lifestyle choice, it also means adopting a completely different mindset. In the modern urban world, virtually every convenience and service are but a phone call (and a hefty bill) away. Imagine if you didn’t have access to them, How do you think that you, personally, would cope with a wide range of situations?
Over the years I’ve had to adapt to what life has thrown at me. Many situations I had no previous experience with or knowledge of how to deal with them, especially those of a technical sort. Life still throws problems to be dealt with – and sometimes now I even have the equipment at hand. Although not all the time.
When people talk about life post SHTF, there are many little every day issues which I’m sure they’ve overlooked. The same can be said for self reliant living. But you either live and learn, or choose a different lifestyle (something we won’t be able to do post SHTF). Just remember – what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
